Kitchen Counter Lighting Question
What kinds of undercabinet lighting should I consider?
Solution
There are three basic types of undercabinet lighting fixtures: Linear lighting (modular incandescent or fluorescent fixtures, and recessed or surface mounted “puck” lighting fixtures.

•Strip lighting fixtures will give you a continuous horizontal light pattern. These linear lighting systems include fluorescent, incandescent, and low voltage modular bar systems or halogen, xenon or argon miniature strip lights.

•Downlighting fixtures will give you a round light pattern. Sometimes they are called “puck” lights because they look so much like a hockey puck. “Puck” lighting fixtures can be ordered so they can be installed recessed, semi–recessed, or surface mounted.

Some “puck” lighting fixtures variations have adjustable swivel features or “eyeballs” that allow you to aim the light either straight down or toward the backsplash. Consider adjustable swivel "puck" lights if you have a display on your back wall.

New, are combination undercabinet lighting fixtures. You can have both a continuous linear light and directional pattern. These combination undercabinet lighting fixtures look like mini-track systems and give you the ability to snap in a variety of lampholders.

In one undercabinet system (and one electrical installation) you can have linear and directional!
